Mechanical vs hydraulic-set production packers.
Set method is not the same as permanent vs retrievable. Use both tables before you lock the BHA.
Mechanical-set packers need tubing manipulation to set. Hydraulic-set packers need applied tubing pressure. Western Canada verticals often favour mechanical simplicity; laterals often favour hydraulic when set-down weight is hard to deliver.

Can I run hydraulic-set on a vertical well?
Yes. Hydraulic set is chosen for pressure-sequence preference or when mechanical set-down is inconvenient — not only for horizontals.
Is permanent the same as hydraulic?
